For Kristen Bell, her little family of four is part of a much bigger picture.

“The way I see it, we are all on Team Human, and I tell my kids that the world is just our extended family,” Bell, 36, said in an article she penned for the November issue of Parents.

Bell shares her two daughters, Lincoln, 3½, and Delta, almost 2, with husband Dax Shepard. And in the Bell Shepard household, giving back is a priority.

“When I bring my girls along with me to volunteer and try to teach them to share toys with each other, I want them to learn that it’s not just about sharing stuff, it’s the sharing of experiences,” the mother of two wrote about bringing her kids along to various charity events, including those hosted by Baby 2 Baby and Alliance of Moms.

She adds, “I don’t want my kids to be afraid to part with their things, as they’re just that — things.”

Kristen Bell spends her days working on NBC’s The Good Place. But for the mother of two, spending time at home with her family is a pretty good place, too.

“I had a great support system when I became pregnant and started raising my babies. I couldn’t have done it without asking a million questions. I think every mother deserves to have access to that support system,” Bell told PEOPLE at the Alliance of Moms Presents Raising Baby in Los Angeles, which included workshops led by experts in child development and brain development.

She adds, “There’s no excuse for us not to be the village for people who need it.”

Christina Applegate and Kristen Bell know that when you live with young children, sometimes you do whatever it takes to get a little extra sleep.

The Bad Moms costars recall mornings when they both let their parenting guard down a bit so they could stay in bed. Bell, who is married to Dax Shepard and mom to daughters Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 19 months, was in a related situation recently when the family stayed in a hotel.

“[My baby] woke up at 6 in the morning and my husband, the toddler and I all pretended to be asleep for probably 30 or 40 minutes,” the Veronica Mars alum, 36, tells PEOPLE.

“And finally, I hear the baby reaching towards my purse and going, ‘Mama, mama … bar, please, please. Bar.’

“I got up, handed her the Greens Bar — it’s a healthy bar she can eat — I opened it up, gave it to her in the crib and went back to bed. And we all woke up around 8.”

Kristen Bell’s ‘Mind Spins with Every Decision’: How Do I Balance Bathing My Kids and ‘Being Respectful to the Water Crisis’

07/22/2016 at 12:05 PM ET

While starring in two projects that have her portraying characters of questionable integrity, Kristen Bell says she’s recently become preoccupied with examining her own status as a “good” person and mom.

“My mind spins with every decision I make,” Bell, 36, told PEOPLE Thursday at San Diego’s Comic-Con International while promoting her forthcoming NBC series The Good Place, in which she plays a badly behaved woman who finds herself accidentally transported to an idyllic afterlife.

“I bathe my girls, but I don’t want to bathe them every night because there’s a water crisis in L.A. So what’s the balance of being respectful to the water crisis in Los Angeles, and keeping my kids clean?”

Kristen Bell on Supporting Fellow Moms: ‘All of Us Are Wearing Yogurt and All of Our Hands Smell Like Urine’

07/12/2016 at 08:00 AM ET

Kristen Bell understands it’s easy to feel like a Bad Mom after scrolling through social media, but the mom of two wants everyone to realize that reality has often been polished.

“In the age of social media, when you can edit your life in beautiful pictures, it’s important to remind moms that all of us are wearing yogurt and all of our hands smell like urine,” the actress and humanitarian, 35, says in her cover story for Redbook‘s August issue.

“When you present an unrealistic idea of perfection to people, it’s not fair,” adds Bell, who has two daughters with husband Dax Shepard: Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 18 months.

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard on Voicing New Kids TV Show: ‘It’s One of Our Favorite Ways to Spend Time Together’

07/07/2016 at 09:00 AM ET

Kristen Bell‘s daughters might not have been overwhelmingly impressed with Frozen, but the actress has a new gig that just might pique their interest — and this time Dad’s getting involved, too.

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that Bell and her husband Dax Shepard are teaming up to lend their voices to a new children’s TV show, Terrific Trucks, coming to NBCUniversal’s kid-TV outlet Sprout this Saturday.

“Mainly I’m jealous of my wife’s outstanding voiceover career and I’m really trying to bite at her heels,” Shepard quips to PEOPLE. “That’s the one thing she’s really got me on — well, there’s a few things, but that’s certainly one of them.”

All jokes aside, Shepard, 41, says working together is one of the couple’s “favorite ways to spend time together.”

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell Are Done Having Kids – And He’s Got a Crazy Vasectomy Story to Prove It

05/19/2016 at 02:00 PM ET

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell might be America’s most adorable parents, but don’t expect their family to be growing anytime soon.

During a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Shepard talked about how having two kids — daughters Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 17 months — is “exponentially” harder than having just one. It’s so much harder, in fact, that he recently eliminated any chance he and Bell had to have any more children.

“Last year, my wife was working in Atlanta. We were there and she all of a sudden goes, ‘Oh my gosh! I’m so stupid. I’ve been sick for 10 days and ignoring it — I’m definitely pregnant,’ ” he says. “I was like, ‘We’re going to turn into Jon and Kate Plus 8 or something. We already have no life! This is going to be not worth living.’ I freaked out. It was so bad.”
