5 Tips to Create an Adventurous Eater Through Baby Self-Feeding

06/21/2016 at 09:00 AM ET

While it may seem like babies have been eating purees for centuries, jarred food wasn’t even an option until the 1940s. In fact, the way people feed their babies tends to change every decade or two based on new research and social norms.

Baby self-feeding is a research-based approach to first feedings, and delivers a simple way for parents to help their children develop a healthy relationship with food from day one.

Nancy Ripton, journalist and co-author of Baby Self-Feeding: Solid Food Solutions to Create Lifelong, Healthy Eating Habits, is sharing her top five tips for getting started with baby self-feeding.

Camila Alves’ Kids Were the Taste Testers of Her Baby Food Line: ‘We Were All Working Together’

06/10/2016 at 06:00 PM ET

If there’s one thing Camila Alves didn’t do in regards to creating her new Yummy Spoonfuls organic baby food line for Target, it’s slap her name on it and call it a day.

“It’s funny because this isn’t something that we’re putting our name on,” the company’s co-founder — who partnered in 2014 with entrepreneur, chef and fellow mom Agatha Achindu — tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“It used to be just Agatha and [me] until we got into a position of hiring people,” the Brazilian-American Alves, 34, continues about the process that went into making Yummy Spoonfuls a reality.

“We started with really bare bones all the way until we really got the structure that we have. I can’t tell you how many [24-hour days] we worked straight.”

Haylie Duff Dishes on Her Latest and Greatest Baby Find: A Cool New Highchair

05/26/2016 at 03:15 PM ET

Haylie Duff is a mom of many talents — one of them being cooking!

The actress, who has her hit Cooking Channel show The Real Girl’s Kitchen, is particularly focused on 1-year-old daughter Ryan Ava eating healthy now in her younger years to shape her palate for the future.

“One of the things that was really important was that my daughter ate really balanced meals so she was not the teenager that would only eat chicken fingers,” Duff tells PEOPLE about the meals she whips up in the kitchen for her family. “I think that really starts young and it’s the example that’s set.”

Camila Alves Launches Premium – and Affordable! – Organic Baby Food Line for Target

05/24/2016 at 10:00 AM ET

Camila Alves knows a thing or two about the challenge of feeding children a clean, fresh and healthy diet. As a busy, hands-on mom to Levi, 7½, Vida, 6, and Livingston, 3 — her kids with husband Matthew McConaughey — Alves has spent countless nights in a messy kitchen, surrounded by bowls of made-from-scratch veggie purees.

“When I had my first child, I started to try and make fresh food for him daily and I became frustrated with the amount of work, and time, involved in making baby food at home,” Alves, 34, told PEOPLE.

Her solution? To help create a line of baby and toddler food that was unprocessed, naturally nutritious, organic — and affordable. Partnering in 2014 with Agatha Achindu — a fellow mom, established chef and entrepreneur who had a similar mission — the duo co-founded Yummy Spoonfuls.

The line, which includes flash-frozen foods designed for babies and toddlers 4 months and up, will launch at Target stores on June 12, PEOPLE can exclusively announce.
