The older Apple Martin gets, the more she’s turning into mother Gwyneth Paltrow‘s mini-me.

The 43-year-old actress’ daughter is quickly transitioning from a tween to a teen — and Paltrow says it’s absolutely “terrifying.”

“Apple just turned 12 years old, and I cannot believe it,” Paltrow told PEOPLE exclusively at the SVEDKA Country Club in Los Angeles to celebrate their new vodka flavor, Cucumber Lime. “She’s so tall and she really has her own life.”

Paltrow and ex Chris Martin reunited in May to celebrate Apple’s 12th birthday at Disneyland, along with their 10-year-old son Moses. She and the Coldplay frontman announced their separation in March 2014 after 10 years of marriage, but have maintained a very healthy conscious uncoupling relationship for the kids.

While the Iron Man actress’ millions of fans can find many adorable photos of Apple on her social media, Paltrow secured strict guidelines when it came time for her daughter to get her own account — and furthermore, her own phone.

“It’s crazy — her phone and her texting and her social media,” she says, adding that her daughter’s accounts are private.

She continues, on finally giving in to getting Apple a cell phone, “I waited as long as I could. She was the last one of her friends to get a phone.”

And it turns out the mother-daughter duo have much more in common than just their looks.

“[Apple] is very into cooking, beauty, makeup — she watches YouTube tutorials a lot — very into fashion,” says the actress-turned-food-writer, who just released her third cookbook, It’s All Easy.

Did Apple get an Apple iPhone?

Refreshing to read about a celebrity who is trying to raise her child to be relatively unaffected by all of the Hollywood pressure.

Idk…Apple looks more like Chris, to me.

If you are a parent that wants to limit the pressures of media and technology until you feel your child is ready, you can do it! My son is fourteen and will get his first cell phone this fall before entering high school. After some deliberation, my husband and I decided to get a phone for calls and texting only, to meet his social needs. We keep other media separate so that he has more time to learn how to use it with moderation. Every kid is different, don’t let anyone pressure you into doing something just because “everyone else is doing it!”

Yeah her son has a very uncommon name Moses.

Does she realize she can get a cellphone where it doesn’t have internet, you can’t text, and so on? Flip phones are still being sold. You’re the parent, you pay the bill. So you can decide what can be available on that phone.

People Magazine is always saying Apple looks just like her Mom, actually she looks more like her DAD!

It us blatantly obvious that apple looks exactky like her dad! Moses looks more like Gwyneth. People keeps calling Apple her “twin” and “Mimi me”. How can they not see it?!! That being said, they are both beautiful kids!

Beautiful daughter. She looks very much like her dad.1st phone at 12 is ok,with restrictions, bit I would say no to social media.

Vanna on

My daughter is 16 and does not have a cell phone. She’s her own person and she doesn’t’ complain at all. What’s all the hype with social media anyway. I have a flip phone and don’t text. People need to get over themselves.

Moofy on

Apple Martini?

Apple isnโ€™t even a pretty name.
