It’s all coming together, Step By Step!

Christine Lakin, who gave birth to daughter Georgia James in March, has been a busy bee. In between tending to her newborn daughter with husband Brandon Breault and finding time to blog about her experiences as a new mom, she has also put together a stunning nursery fit for any southern belle.

“I wanted to bring a touch of southern style to Georgia’s nursery, and love the way the peach and pink colors pop out against the gray,” Lakin, 37, tells PEOPLE exclusively.

The southern influence makes sense for the Texas-born, Georgia-raised new mom considering her daughter’s namesake and that her baby shower was peach-themed.

“The évolur crib is so beautiful,” the Mother’s Day star says. “I think it’s such a modern color for a girl’s room and the dresser construction is so exquisite with the soft closure drawers. It’s definitely a room set that will grow with her.”

She continues, “The quilt was made by my husband’s great aunt, and is such a special gift straight from the heart of the Midwest. Handmade traditions like that are so incredible and unique.”

“I found the fabric banner on Etsy, as well as the carved wood sign,” she adds. “We hung artwork by our photographer friend Jamie Arrigo, and some paintings my husband did as well.”

And it seems as if the serene sleep space is already a hit with the couple’s baby girl.

“Georgia is just starting to take in the colors and movement of her mobile, and it’s so fun to watch her change and grow every day,” the proud mom shares. “Mabel’s Labels have also helped me keep her gifts and hand-me-downs organized.”

Lakin may have bought a lot of her daughter’s nursery items new, but she also wasn’t afraid to turn to friends for other things.

“Many of my friends had girls and passed on their treasures,” she says. “Love me some recycled clothes!”

Cute baby and beautiful room, is it just me or does the little girl look cross-eyed?

The baby is beautiful and the parents are also gorgeous! Congrats to this cute family!

Beautiful baby. Congratulations!

It’s a lovely room (and an adorable baby!) but I don’t see what’s so special or magazine worthy about it. It’s gray. With a ribbon garland.

And I have news for you, nothing ever lasts the for years. She’ll be 5 and want a princess room or 10 and love horses. Whatever, you’ll redo everything all over again. Why stick a child in a gray room if all blue makes her happier?mwhats it save you – $2k? $5k? Not enough to stick to the old things.

Many babies are “cross-eyed” for up to 3 months, or so, as my new Grand girl had that and now completely fine at age 6 months:). Georgia is so pretty and a precious, little Southern Belle and enjoy all the neat moments since time starts passing very quickly with babies growing up way too’ fast!!!

Glad to see a celeb who isn’t afraid of second hand clothes. Love her daughter’s room.

Congrats to the new parents. Whenever I see a pic of a baby/newborn, I can’t help smiling, probably the only time I smile. Now as an adult myself, I truly believe and completely understand that babies are angels sent from heaven.

I may be overly cautious, but I would not place that banner right above the crib. If it ever fell off the wall, it looks like it could fall into the crib and may be a choking hazard.

So pretty!! And I have to say, serene, down to earth, and practical! This looks like a nursery that most of us moms would have in our own homes. Thanks for sharing this special room and your sweet, lovely daughter and family!

The changing table is right in front of the window, with no guardrail or anything to stop the baby from rolling right out! Pleade rearrange the furniture – very pretty but not safe!

Safety minded above should be called MORON thoughts that don’t make sense. The baby isn’t going to roll out the window! Gee whiz- people make such stupid comments!

Ok. I’ve lived in the South all of my life and couldn’t possibly tell you what comprises a “southern-style” room; however, while this room is, I guess, pretty, it certainly doesn’t evoke images of the South. The South is warm and sunny. This room is cold and gray. Maybe it’s more “London style”.

Too cute! We just started looking at peach and grey with a little hint of mint/teal for a nursery.

Did she just copy verbatim the details in the catalog for the crib/dresser?

JAMES? WTF there are serious problems with the people in this world.

What a joy to see such a beautiful picture of my work! Many thanks to Christine Lakin and People Magazine for crediting my wood script name in this feature. Best wishes to Georgia and family!

I do like the furniture, but the curtains, lamp and chair are hideous! The painting doesn’t match the room at all and that pink ball hanging from the ceiling just looks stupid.

Elzie on

I don’t get it. It looks like a camera phone photo that is dark and boring. There’s a cord showing on the lamp and to the right of the crib a monitor laying on the floor. There is a weird flower ball hanging in the corner and a painting that doesn’t match. The blue and wood chair is atrocious and is in the photo. Did anyone style this room or photos? I see way better photos on Pinterest of average people’s nurseries. I don’t think this is worthy of People or any website for that matter.
