Kristen Bell has a mini food critic on her hands.

“I made black bean chipotle veggie burgers yesterday,” the actress tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue.

“I thought they were righteously delicious. And I gave them to my 3-year-old [daughter Lincoln] and she said, ‘Without ketchup, these taste like Lola food.’ And Lola is our dog.”

Bell’s ego isn’t the only thing that’s been bruised in the kitchen: The actress has discovered cooking for her family can be dangerous.

“I was making breakfast for the kids and I got a second degree grease burn,” she says. “Then I put Band-Aids on it and discovered I’m allergic to the adhesive. That caused a rash that’s worse than the burn.”

Culinary critiques and injuries aside, the House of Lies star, 35, says she’s relishing life with her two daughters, including 16-month-old Delta.

“Every morning when I wake my girls up, even when they’re screaming [and] crying, I’m just happy,” says Bell, who is married to actor Dax Shepard. “I like their breath and how their skin smells. I sneak in their room at night and smell them!”

But even an early start to their mornings doesn’t help when it comes to the family of four sticking to a strict schedule.

“I’m always late. The children never want to get dressed, and I’m not good at judging how quickly the clock moves,” she says. “By the time I’m 40, I’ll learn to tell time.”

How does the little girl know how dog food taste like.

Mrs. B on

I have never eaten dog food or dirt, but there are certain foods that taste like both. Beets taste like how I imagine dirt would taste. Canned corn beef hash tastes like dog food.

That’s what she gets for feeding the kid Ken-L Ration. Personally, I’d have sprung for the Gerber’s.

She is only 3 years old, it’s hard to believe she knows what the dog’s food tastes like.

Me on

At 3, I knew what dog food tasted like…I snuck a piece from the bowl when the dog wasn’t there. Even with a quick mom, I still ate most of it. If you people really think your child has never tasted pet food, dirt, dust mites, grass, flowers, or even a little toilet paper…then you’re kidding yourselves!

Yes her daughter is a smart girl, she knows the food she likes or not.

LOLz the joke’s on most of you because the three-year-old actually knows what she’s talking about – as does “Me”. Most of taste is olfactory and has nothing to do with your tongue. You can tell how something is likely to taste by smelling it. Kid’s short, dog’s food is closer to her head than ours; she’s smelled (and probably tasted, let’s be honest) the dog food. I can see it!

Plus, god forbid the kid have an imagination. Maybe it the black bean burger doesn’t taste like dog food, but if it crumbled, maybe it LOOKED like dog food! Toddlers are hilarious, their little minds are taking in information and trying various ways to use it to figure out life. Lincoln’s showing sound use of logic here: They have told me they don’t want me to eat dog food, therefore dog food must be bad. If dog food is bad, and this food tastes/looks like dog food, maybe they will give me something I like/am familiar with.
