Julia Roberts: Taking Care of My Kids Is ‘a Whole Production’

She’s a full-time actress and a full-time mom, and that’s more than enough for Julia Roberts.
In an interview to promote her upcoming film Secret in Their Eyes, Roberts reveals to PEOPLE that she’s not in a hurry to add “director” to her resumé anytime soon.
“I would just never want to be that person,” Roberts says of the position. “I get everybody out the door to school on time, clean, fed, happy. That’s directing a whole production right there.”
The mother of three — she and husband Danny Moder are parents to twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, 10, and Henry, 8 — also shares how being a full-time actress impacts her kids’ normal routine.
“Danny is very much a part of it so there’s only one little element gone — I like to think I’m an important element,” she says. “But the movie that I did with George [Clooney] and Jodie [Foster], I worked days and then was off days so I was back and forth a lot.”
She adds, “I mean, my daughter does refer to August: Osage County as the ‘dark time’ because it was the first time I had ever left.”
Roberts also opens up about working with her husband of 10 years, who was the cinematographer for Secret in Their Eyes.
“It was amazing. It was so great. He’s my favorite person on the planet so I love spending time with him and I love his work ethic. His point of view is really valuable to me,” she says.
