Jimmy Fallon: Why Moms ‘Have to Be the Disciplinarians’ of Daughters

Jimmy Fallon Talks Fatherhood Getty

As the father to two little girls, Jimmy Fallon has become that dad.

“I thought I’d never be that annoying person [who shares pictures of his kids], but as soon as Winnie was born, I was showing iPhone snaps to a cab driver,” the Tonight Show host, 40, says in a new interview with Parents.

Of course, there are some not-so-fun things about being a dad to daughters Frances Cole, 5 months and Winnie Rose, 22 months.

“They vomit a lot. For a second I thought I needed to rename my first Linda Blair and hire a priest, because she was spitting up so much,” Fallon jokes.

But overall, the Saturday Night Live alum has taken to fatherhood like a champ.

He makes his own baby food (beet and Swiss chard pudding is on the menu), plays original songs for the girls on his guitar (including one that goes, “I’m dancin’, I’m dancin’, I’m dance-dance-dance-dance-dancin”), and has even accepted people talking to him about poop.

“As a parent you just get used to it, and pooping is just another verb in your vocabulary,” he explains.

One thing he didn’t succeed at: coaching his firstborn, Winnie, to say “Dada” as her first word. The missed moment led Fallon to pen a children’s bookYour Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada.

“I loved reading to Winnie, and at the time I came up with the book, it was important to me that her first word be ‘Dada.’ I went as far as to try to trick her into saying ‘Dada’ by calling everything ‘Dada,’ from her bottle to diapers to strawberry … Sadly, ‘Mama’ was her first word,” Fallon shares.

In addition to his baby book, the proud father is full of advice for first-time dads of daughters — and their mothers. “Moms should know that even the manliest guys will become softies when they have daughters,” he notes.

“Dads immediately fall in love with their little girls, and will let them get away with everything. So moms are going to have to be the disciplinarians when it comes to daughters.”

Could the beet and swiss chard “pudding” be the reason why the kids throw up so much? Sound really unappetizing.

@KeepingItClassy – The baby food comment was a joke from the interview.

I will never understand his appeal. Would watch Savannah Guthrie give a play-by-play of paint drying before I’d watch this dolt.

LOVE Jimmy Fallon!! He makes us laugh every show! We look forward to coming home from work and watching the show together. His Daddy stories are the best. He’s such a softie, as most Dads are.

But you still read about him and comment Izzie – fascinating.

Dads want to be the good ones to their daughters, so mom has to take the mean part.

Okay. He was fun in the beginning but now his show actually sucks when you realize he’s talking more about himself rather than interview the guest and waiting for an answer. His monologue is boring and he turns me off with his political “jokes”. SNL was funny in the 70s through the 90s and then lost its momentum. His show is losing its momentum too.

For the record: I couldn’t get through the article.

Have to disagree. 3 girls & 1 boy in my house and dad & I are both disciplinarians. That is how it should work.

JIMMY FALLON IS THE BEST! He seems like the sweetest most down to earth guy. Love him.

LOL Eve!! Me too.

I don’t thnk we need to take the comments about discpline that iterally. He’s a relatively new dad to baby girls. He’s stll in the gushing stage. I’m sure if he needs to he will step up to the plate. We don’t need to be questioning how good a father he is. That’s really not our place is it?
