Update: After taking a three-day break from The Tonight Show, Fallon returned on Monday with a special surprise: the first photos of his newborn baby girl.

“That’s just a cute little baby, right?” he told the audience. “I just want to say it’s just a big deal for us and I just want to thank everyone, the nurses and the doctors and our surrogate, who had our baby. There are angels in Dallas, Texas.”

Posted Dec. 3: It’s been a banner year for Jimmy Fallon.

The Tonight Show host, 40, and wife Nancy welcomed their second child on Wednesday, a rep for the couple confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

Frances Cole Fallon officially entered the world at 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 3, weighing 5 lbs., 11 oz. and is 18.5 inches long,” the statement reads.

“Their new addition joins big sister, Winnie Rose, 16 months. The couple opted to keep their baby joy to themselves until their new daughter made her official debut. Both Fallon babies were born via surrogate.”

On Wednesday, the proud new papa sent out a quick Tweet on behalf of his baby girl. “Franny sends her thanks,” he wrote.

And with the arrival of their new addition, the family of four is taking a time out to soak up time together.

“Due to unexpected but delightful circumstances, there will not be new episodes tonight or Thursday evening,” The Tonight Show Tweeted.

The show will also run a repeat on Friday. “Jimmy is spending another day with new baby Frances,” an NBC spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

In July 2013, the couple became parents for the first time, kicking off months of little sleep — but tons of joy.

“This has been the craziest year of my life,” Fallon told PEOPLE in June. “But being a father is the most exciting, amazing thing that ever happened to me. And everything’s going well on the show. My life has never been this cool.”

Speaking of cool: Fallon — who also penned his first baby book this year — graces this week’s cover of Entertainment Weekly as the magazine’s 2014 Entertainer of the Year.

“I’ve gotta beat Emma Stone at lip-synching,” Fallon says of his 2015 goal.

With another young one in the house, we think that might have to wait until 2016!

Love them! Congrats Jimmy.

Okay, so it seems Jimmy Fallon is never going to marry me. Congrats!

MissDevourer on

Congratulations to the little family!! I was never a big fan or any of the late night shows, but he’s definitely made a new fan. He’s brought to The Tonight Show a fresh and funny spin and I love watching his stuff now. I bet he’s the funnest dad!

lola on

Awwww…. what a wonderfu surprise!!
So happy for him and his wife Nancy. Congratulations Fallon family.

Sarah S. on

Congrats and Happy Holidays to the Fallon clan!! 🙂

Christina on

You’ll never beat Emma Stone, Jimmy. Her lip synching is untouchable! Congrats on the baby! I didn’t even know his wife was pregnant again!

Wait, what????? So soon after Winnie? From the size of her, she looks to have been born early. Now they REALLY have their hands full. I think “singletons” are so lucky, but of course it’s up to the parents here.

And Ffffffffffffrances FFFffffffffallon? Fuffering Fuccotash!

lola on

Mary!!!! What a really ridiculous thing to say! What in the world is wrong with you? Did your parents drop you when you were little? That’s it right?!

Tiffanysue2 on

Awww yay Jimmy Fallon is the best!!! Love his daughters names, so adorable!

How sweet! Congratulations to the Fallon family!

Thank you, lola! Mary’s comment was ridiculous and unnecessary!

VaBch78 on

Mary,
How do you know they are not biologically hers? What does it matter?

caroline on

Mary, how ignorant are you? They were born via surrogate. Biologically they are 100% their daughters. I think it’s wonderful. Congrats to them!

dysturbed on

I wonder how you will feel if you ever learn to comprehend the idiocy of your false assumptions.

SJ on

They seem like a wonderful family. But personally, I could never justify using a surrogate when there are already so many children (including babies) who really need homes. I was adopted at thirteen and it changed my life for the better. But to each their own.

BSM on

Mary you are a hateful person. Shame on you!!!

john on

Congrats Jimmy Fallon on your new bundle of joy. Now you will never sleep lol.

Dee on

For those making rude comments they tried for years to have their children naturally, but after many unsuccessful tries went with a surrogate….the children are theirs biologically…..that’s what a surrogate does …….they seem like a loving couple and also seem to be very happy with children.

Lauren on

SJ – everyone is different.

Personally, I would never adopt. It’s expensive, time-consuming, and the older kids who are easier to adopt often come with psychological issues. My daughter is beautiful, and I just don’t think I could love an adopted child the way I love her. Might sound harsh, but that’s how I feel. Adoption isn’t for everyone.

sam on

@Dee – they’ve been trying for years? I thought they were only recently married??? Regardless, it’s their business and they aren’t seeking approval from the peanut gallery. If they have the financial resources to outsource the pregnancy & childbirth and choose to do so, more power to them and who is it hurting?? I”m sure the surrogate did the job willingly and was generously compensated.

sam on

I’m the same age as her – 47 – and can’t imagine having a newborn at my age. Then again, I’m not a multi-millionaire able to pay for 24/7 help – not to mention a surrogate to do the hard part.

GlamberWaves on

There is something inherently good and joyful about Jimmy Fallon. I’m so happy for all the blessings he and Nancy have received recently. Most deserved.

SarahJane77 on

They’ve been married since 2007 & started trying soon after they tied the knot. The children are biologically theirs. And cait, how rude to say his wife had a surrogate to do “the hard part!” I’m sure she would have given anything to be able to carry a baby (& likely did.) Congrats to Jimmy & Nancy. I don’t know much about her, but he’s so awesome I can’t imagine he would marry anyone less than fantastic.

sam on

SarahJane77 — have you had kids? If so, “77” must be your age and you simply forget the pain, discomfort and potential complications.

SJ on

@Lauren,

Actually, adopting doesn’t have to be expensive. And it’s not nearly as difficult as people make it out to be. I have three siblings who were also adopted as newborns. No psychological issues. No physical disabilities. And no drug issues in the family. In fact, we have all went to college. And when people adopt from foster care (like us), it’s completely free. There are no adoption fees or anything. In fact, adoptive families are given money for clothes and the like. The only financial restraint is that adoptive parents will likely want to take time off of work at first.

And it’s not fair to say that you could never love another child the same as your own biological daughter, as you have never adopted. That’s a very one-sided view.

I’ll admit that most children in foster care come with many behavioral problems. But with proper care and love, adoption is the only way for us to prosper.

Mamagirl31 on

Congrats!!!

Jenny on

Awww congratulations Jimmy and Nancy!!! Winnie is one of the most adorable little girls I have ever seen and I spend all day working with infants and toddlers! I am so glad you continue to grow your family because you guys make some adorably cute babies!!!

Ginger on

I have never seen someone so excited about being a father more so than Jimmy Fallon!! congratulations!!

Paige on

Cait – I have two small children (3 and 5), and loved both being pregnant and giving birth. I am very, very lucky that this has been my experience with pregnancy and childbirth, and from what I’ve read, most women who become surrogates also enjoy the process – that’s why they choose to be surrogates. Women who loathe being pregnant and giving birth (or who have extremely challenging pregnancies) don’t elect to become surrogates. So from their perspective, the pregnancy and birth is not “the hard part.” RAISING the children – now that’s hard.

Great news! What lucky little girls to grow up in a family where they’ll be so loved and wanted. Couldn’t be happier for them.

Hope she goes by Cole Fallon, that pretty cool. But Frannie Fallon? Uh, not so much.

Jester on

Congrats 🎉 to Nancy!

I know the first daughter was named for a lake — was this one named for….Frances Farmer? Frances Fisher? Kurt Cobain’s daughter? Frances Fisher? Frances McDormand (love her!)? Surely not Frances Bavier, hahahaha, who played Andy’s Aunt Bee…..My guess is she’s named for someone in one of their families. So we have Franny, Winnie, Jimmy, and Nancy….can you say eeeeeeeee????? or maybe more accurately WHEEEEEEE!!!!! Will he take parental leave, I hope???? Get a sub for the Tonight Show, Jimmy, hang out with your girls for a couple of months!

Toni M on

Ok, so first of all, they did NOT use a surrogate; they used a gestational carrier. This means their children are 100% biologically theirs (their egg and sperm were implanted into a woman willing to carry the pregnancy to term).. A surrogate is when the woman surrogate’s egg is used with the male (father’s) sperm. So the mother becomes the adoptive mother with her husband being the child’s biological father. And to also clarify to the hateful comment about buying babies, I’m adopted, so I guess I was purchased. But I have been more loved than many of the other kids in my life growing up whom were born biologically to their parents. My own children were conceived through medical treatment and IUI, so I guess, in many ways, my children were also “purchased”. Does that mean we shouldn’t have them or I shouldn’t exist? Thanks for your stupid comment, though. I was quite useful in getting out a lot of my frustration for the day!

Mollie on

Yay!

Tracy on

Wonderful news, conratulations.

Natalie on

So many idiotic comments about such wonderful news. You people must be a delight to be around in real life.

As for Jimmy and his wife, I wish them nothing but the best. It’s obvious he adores Winnie and I have no doubt this sweet little girl will be just as loved.

Cricket2.0 on

Congrats to them. 5 pounds is just a little bity one, so sweet.

@Mary. You’re a dunce. People who have children that aren’t biologically theirs have usually worked hard to have those children and love them just as much as they would any bio kid. Plus they used a surrogate so you don’t know that it’s not biologically theirs. Don’t ever say that to some one who has adopted!

lala on

so they cant make babies on their on. surrogate is the way to go or better, adopt.

denise on

congrats!!! on another daughter…I have 4 girls and they are the greatest joy they love their parents dearly (until they are teens lol) enjoy every moment.

emilyrh21 on

surrogacy means you put a fertilized egg (usually of your own) into another woman’s uterus. the baby is most likely theirs biologically. regardless, that beautiful baby girl is theirs, biologically or not. Congrats to the Fallons!

Marky on

Mary, I have an adopted daughter that isn’t even the same race I am, yet she is so like me in many many ways. I’ll tell you how she feels…just the same as she would have felt if she had given birth to her daughters! She is crazy about them, thinks they are a wonderful gift, just as she would have if she had given birth to them. How do I know? Because I also have a bio daughter very close in age to my first daughter, and I don’t love either of them more than the other. I am bewildered by people like you…were you just not taught better, or did you blow all their teaching off?

Congratulations to the happy new parents! Frances is a lucky girl to be born into such a sweet family……

Marky on

Some of you twits might bother to find out why a couple uses a surrogate before you claim it’s because they “want the easy way out”, ” have the ability to basically buy a baby and others do not”, or “they have the financial resources to outsource the pregnancy & childbirth and choose to do so”! What makes you people say such stupid things? Those statements aren’t just opinions, they are ignorant rude comments meant to be rude. Good grief! Shame on all of you who said such”crap”.

Anonymous on

Sam- I’m guessing you’re confusing him with Jimmy Kimmel (who got married just last year and welcomed a daughter with his wife this past July). 🙂

Anyway, congrats to them! And I cannot believe some of the comments on here. “Buying a baby”, really?! How is it “buying a baby” when the baby is biologically yours (and I think we can safely assume that at the very least, Jimmy is the bio father of both girls)?! SMH

Hea on

Congrats to them!

I do, however, feel that 47 is too old to have a baby. I’ll likely be bashed for this but I have friends whose fathers have been approaching 50 when they were born and three of them are now dealing with elderly fathers with dementia and are fighting for their parents rights to the right care when they should be happy 25-30 year olds giving their fathers grandchildren. Instead, they have to parent their parent.

I realize that this does not happen to everybody who have children late in life and it can happen to anyone really but still…

Congratulations on the precious new addition to the family! He seems like he would be such a great dad.

I’m so sick of Jimmy Fallon. Did he buy this kid to get even more publicity?

Anonymous on

Jimmy seems like a stand up guy. Nice guys do finish first. Also, wife is way pretty.

Tina on

Congrats. Love this guy.

Tina on

@Mary, just because their children are born by a surrogate doesn’t mean they are not biologically Jimmy’s and his wife. They can take the wife’s eggs and fertilize them with the husband’s sperm, then implant it in the surrogate. So, technically the surrogate is merely a vessel.

tb on

Mary you are a DING DONG…surrogate means you did not CARRY the baby- someone else got turkey basted with an embryo created with his sperm and HER egg. SMH

Suzi on

YAY for them! That’s awesome!

bkable on

Who cares how long they’ve been married? Maybe she tried with an ex-husband? Or told by a doctor that she can’t have children naturally? Or previously had a hysterectomy? Or had a reproductive system cancer?

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter why they chose surrogacy. But I think it’s a little insensitive to say they “outsourced” their pregnancy.

Brooke on

Lauren – your comments on not loving an adopted child as much aren’t harsh.

They’re closed minded, ridiculous and mean.

And I hate to break it to you – Biological children aren’t for everyone

Tracy on

I really like Jimmy Fallon, but Winnie and now Frannie?? Sounds like someone gave birth to 70 year old women!

Liz on

Cait – if you think the having of babies is the “hard part” – you clearly have never raised children! I have three! The “tiny” one was 9 pounds. the pain I went through is not forgotten, it is irrelevant in the grand scheme of raising three amazing, smart children that are now teens. Not perfect kids…just great kids.

Congrats on the new addition to the Fallon Family!

Anonymous on

@cait–Nancy had cancer in her thirties, and the treatment left her unable to successfully carry a child. She and Drew Barrymore (her business partner) participated in a documentary series where she talked about this, even before she and Jimmy married. So while they did pay a surrogate (more than likely, or perhaps someone close to them volunteered) it wasn’t because it was easier…

Amy on

Winnie and Franny…So cute!!

Hea on

As far as I know his wife is 47.

Clare on

Surrogacy does not always mean just a gestational carrier. Many surrogates act as egg donors as well. But why does it matter whether the baby is biologically hers? And whose business is it? It’s so much easier to just be happy for people.

sharon on

Awesome! He is such a likable guy. I wish his family well.

laure on

why does jimmy fallon repeat himself?? i love to watch him but if i hear him say HOT CROWD one more time,, or it was world wide trending in 20 minutes,, or is it ok to do thank you notes,, etc etc..it is very annoying to hear every time..ANYWAY,, CONGRATS TO HIM AND HIS WIFE..

June on

Congratulations to the Fallons! 😀

Jane on

Some of you people are either illiterate or just plain stupid. The children were born via a surrogate; that does NOT mean that the children are not biologically theirs! They took his sperm and his wife’s eggs and put them into another woman. Using a surrogate does not make the child any less yours. And to woman who asked how Mrs. Fallon feels raising someone else’s bio child, go take a long walk off of a short pier. What a disgusting thing to say!

katedfw on

Sending you much Love from Texas!! We love you Jimmy!

Mary, somewhere in this world I have a biological sperm donor (unless he’s dead). Once my parents divorced he decided to bail on my brother and I. Flash forward and my mom remarries and years later my stepdad tells my mom he’d love to officially adopt us. HE is my father 100% even though we share zero DNA. Grow up seriously.

Seriously? on

Christina, do you know how to read? His wife wasn’t pregnant ‘again’. His wife wasn’t pregnant the first time! They had a SURROGATE!

Christina on

For those confused about surrogates, there is usually a “contribution” from both the mother and father. (Unless there are clear medical reasons that this cannot happen); therefore, the baby is biological.

To Mary, this should educate you a little on your crass comment.
