John Krasinski Emily Blunt Welcome Daughter Hazel

It’s a girl!

John Krasinski and Emily Blunt welcomed their first child, daughter Hazel, on Sunday, Feb. 16.

The actor, 34, made the happy announcement himself via Twitter.

“Wanted to let the news out directly. Emily and I are so incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy bday!” the former Office star writes.

The couple, who were married in 2010, announced the pregnancy in September.

In December, Blunt, 30, was honored at a baby shower celebrating the impending arrival.

sometimes when people use old fashioned names on babies born in todays world, it can be kind of cute….but i don’t think hazel is one of the names. It’s old, and sounds old and it does not paint a nice picture. But, hey, it’s their kid, Congrats!

I think it’s a lovely name. Those of you who don’t like the name because it “sounds old” do understand she won’t be an infant forever right?

It always amuses me when people complain a name sounds too grown up or old for a baby. Personally I’d rather see a baby given a name that will be appropriate as an adult than a adult with a silly childish name the would have been better as a nickname left in childhood. But I’m a bit old-fashioned like that. And Yes “Bug” is my daughters nickname.

@Bugsmum. I totally agree about naming the adult NOT the baby. If all goes well throughout life, more time will be spent as an adult than as a baby or a young child. However, I don’t think anyone has a problem with Hazel sounding “old”, because many “old” names are just lovely. They, like I do, may have a problem with it sounding ugly. It is an absolutely hideous name for a baby, little girl, adolescent, teenager, young or old woman.

In pop culture, some may remember the tv show Hazel (google Shirley Booth Hazel) or even just the reruns, and many may also remember George Costanza saying how hard it was for him at school or in the neighborhood having a mom who looked like Hazel. And it’s not just because of that, it’s because the name is hideous. If it didn’t take off with Julia Roberts naming her daughter that, there’s a good reason.

Honestly, it seems like people on here are NEVER satisfied when it comes to celebrity babies names. When a celeb names their child something like Blue or North, people complain that it’s too weird and “out there” and wonder why more celebs can’t give their kids “normal” names.

Yet when a celeb DOES give their child a “normal” name, then it’s too old-fashioned, the “wrong” gender, too little kidish, horrible because it’s a nickname and those should never be used as full names, too bland, etc.

Anyway, congrats to them, and I happen to like the name! Incidentally, I was starting to think the media had gotten it wrong about her being due in February, seeing as how there isn’t much of the month left!
