Halle Berry‘s big surprise has arrived!

Berry and her husband Olivier Martinez welcomed their first child together — a baby boy — on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Los Angeles, her rep confirms to PEOPLE.

The American actress and French actor, both 47, have named their son Maceo-Robert, a source close to the couple confirms to PEOPLE.

The “Maceo” part is said to be of Spanish origin — Martinez’s father, Robert Martinez, was a Spanish boxer — and means “gift of God.”

Berry — who is mom to 5½-year-old daughter Nahla Ariela from her previous relationship with Gabriel Aubry — has said that she didn’t expect to have a second child.

“This has been the biggest surprise of my life, to tell you the truth,” Berry said in April. “Thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me. So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful.”

It has been a momentous year for Berry, who tied the knot with the French film star in July at a small chateau in Vallery, France.

While joking with reporters in June, Martinez said, “My son will be an American, but I remain French.”

A source at the hospital told PEOPLE on Saturday night, “Olivier hasn’t left Halle’s side. Nahla visited her baby brother earlier today.” On Sunday, the big sister was seen happily skipping and prancing in the corridor of the maternity floor.

I believe she is lying. I’m 41 trying for a baby, and saw a fertility specialist. She said I had <5 % chance of conceiving naturally. My best chances are with IVF. Doubt she is telling the truth when she says this baby was natural. It would be nice for older ladies like me to hear, yes we struggled to conceive but were able to in a positive tone.

Katie, my younger sister is 12 years younger than me. My mother was 46 when she had her and my grandmother was 45 when she had my mother. While I know many women suffer with fertility issues as they get older, it is not uncommon for older woman to conceive naturally. I knew plenty of families growing up who had “Ooops” children in their clan-kids who were well more than a decade younger than the rest of the kids in the family. This was particularly common with our grandparents and great grandparents. A lot of women back then had children later in life, well after it would be assumed that they could no longer conceive.

Regardless, Halle’s story is just that- HER story. It has no bearing on someone else’s ability to conceive.

Katie, my grandmother had kids well into her 40s. Some women are fertile longer, and often there’s a genetic component. I had a baby in my 40s. My aunt had an oopsie baby in her 40s when my cousins were in high school. I’m sorry you’re struggling, really, but I truly don’t think Halle is lying. That’s harsh. Rather than make you feel bad, it ought to give older women hope. It CAN happen.

I don’t think she’s lying. The chances to get pregnant naturally are lower when you’re that old, but not impossible.

I remember her saying in an interview a couple of years ago that her daughter in her prayers at night always asked God for a little brother or sister. She did comment that she did not think that was in the cards for them, but here they are now with a new little one. So funny how it all worked out. Wishing the family many blessings in the future!

Thanks Carla for your comment to Katie. My mom was 38 when she had me and turned 39 twenty-four days later. Her last child (my younger sister), was born when my mom was 10 days away from her 46th birthday. She conceived all of us the old-fashioned way.

Oh and when Halle said she didn’t think it was in the cards for her to have another baby, I think she meant that she wasn’t planning on another child, not that she couldn’t have another.

Katie- My heart goes out to you. I did have two children at age 41 and 42. Also had two additional pregnancies in my 40’s. Some have said that I am rare because they were all natural, but at 47 my body could only make bad eggs. I do wish some of the star would either not say anything or tell the truth. I would not be surprised if she did do IVF. You would be surprise how many women over 40 who use donor eggs. Including me.

Hi Katie-

So sorry you are struggling. I struggled too and really understand your pain. IVF worked for me THEN after my 1st I was very surprised to get pregnant on my own. We were very lucky. Sometimes people struggle for awhile and then all of a sudden your pregnant. I hope that happens for you.

For Halle Berry, I believe her. My great-aunt always says to be careful or you will have a “change baby”. She meant that when women were about through “the change” or menopause, that someone always ended up pregnant. I guess the old wives tale is your body is getting rid of all the last few eggs.

That’s YOUR story… My aunt had her last child NATURALLY at 45… YES the chances are LOWER but it can happen… GEEZ… Don’t be mad cause you can’t get pregnant… And my sister just had her son, now 3months old, and she’s 42 AND she wasn’t even trying… God has aplan for everyone having a baby naturally may not be in His plans for YOU… Don’t block someone’s blessing because YOU are having a difficult time… CONGRATS HALLE AND FAMILY

There are plenty of women in there 40’s who have children on their own. Both of my grandmothers did, I have several aunts, cousins, and friends. I am very sorry that you are struggling, but just because that’s the case, doesn’t make her a liar.

My grandmother had 3 children in her 40s, the last at 48. Undoubtedly, it is more difficult the older you get but hardly impossible. Birth control wasn’t really a thing back then and my Granddad just keep hittin’ the mark! Best of luck to Katie and everyone still trying.

I don’t think Halle is lying, either. For one thing, she did not seem at all desperate for another child (and a few times even alluded to the fact that she had pretty much accepted that another child probably wasn’t in the cards for her).

For another, she’s diabetic, and from what I understand, fertility drugs are very dangerous for diabetic women (they can wreak havoc on their sugar and/or insulin levels, if I’m remembering correctly).

In any case, congrats to them!

Women with diabetes in general can have very difficult pregnancies when conceived on their own. Some, are advised to it have children based on the severity of the diabetes. I have never heard that fertility drugs additionally make this worse.

Her being a diabetic is very confusing bc she says she was a type one and was diagnosed at 19. also, she was able to ween herself off the insulin and become a type two. This is not possible. She says now she’s a type 2. I never believed she had type one. Either did the press, news, doctors, etc. no educated person with diabetes would say you could go from a one to a two!

Halle seems very healthy and was glowing throughout her pregnancy. Many women who are pregnant in their 20s do not look even half as healthy! If you take care of yourself, your chances go up. I remember noticing her voluptuous curves in her 40s (I’m assuming all-natural) and thinking, now THAT woman looks like the epitome of fertility!! I didn’t even think about her age. I must have been right!~
