Drew Barrymore is a mom!

The actress and Will Kopelman welcomed their first child — a daughter — on Wednesday, PEOPLE confirms.

“We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, born Sept. 26th, healthy, happy and welcomed by the whole family,” the couple tell PEOPLE in a statement.

“Thank you for respecting our privacy during this most special time in our lives.”

Although rumors of pregnancy began swirling in February, Barrymore, 37, never said a word, preferring to let her June wedding portrait speak for itself. In it, her husband — an art consultant — gently cradles his wife’s growing baby belly.

“I can’t wait until I have my children,” the actress recently told Haute Living, indirectly referring to her pregnancy. “I just want to build fun, great things for my family.”

In recent weeks, Barrymore had been spotted attending prenatal yoga classes and spending time with Kopelman’s parents, who were in town ahead of the birth.

“Drew is so motherly,” a source told PEOPLE in January. “Will would like to be a dad. Family is so important to him.”

Big CONGRATS to the happy parents! Love and cherish each moment together as a family!

Jacqueline on

I am estatic for the newlywed parents, what an amazing adventure they are about to partake in. I am quite positive with the way drew has handled her life, career with ups and downs in both, that she will be an amazing is an amazing mother! CONGRATS WILL AND DREW!

PS I bet she is a mini drew and already saying…”they’re baaaacccckkkk!! Lol

texasrocks on

Jacqueline, I think you have Drew confused with Heather O’Rourke who has passed away. She was the one in Poltergeist, not Drew.

Shenae on

Congrats! Olive, a normal name, I like it!

trisha on

Shenae, where the heck are you from??? Olive is not freaking normal.

Brandi on

Olive is cute and sounds a LOT better than Apple, Bronx, Pilot Inspektor and many of the other crazy names that these people come up with for their kids. Lol who are we to judge though? Let them name their kids whatever they want…they’ve got the money to pay for the years of therapy their kids are going to need because of their names!!

Anonymous on

so happy for them all. i have always loved Drew and its great to see the woman she has become.

Holli on

Congrats Drew! She will make such a lovely mom I’m sure!

Sandra on

Guess if they have a boy he’ll be Popeye.

Susan on

Great name! Congrats.

JJ on

Olive? What’s their next kid’s name going to be, Martini? Unique doesn’t always have to equal odd people……poor kid.

AQ on

Olive isn’t odd, though? It is a legitimate name that was used far before Olivia ever was.

kelleylee on

THANK YOU!! Our 2 year-old’s name is Olive and we’ve met a few people who have said their grandmother’s name is/was Olive or an older lady saying she had a friend of the same name.

The very “normal” Olivia is a much newer name, actually.

Hope Alison Stapf on

Olive is a normal name made popular in the 50’s.

lillykris on

That is sweet considering Drew was the voice to Olive in the Christmas cartoon movie “Olive the Other Reindeer”. Good luck to them all

Jill on

HOW many marriages are under her belt now???

Brandi on

Why does it matter how many times she’s been married? Isn’t this article is about the birth of her first child? Smh.

Lyoness on

I love this name Olive. It’s not out there, classic and still unique. Congratulations.

Michele on

I love the name Olive!!!

Bree on

Olive was the name of the reindeer that Drew voiced in an animated cartoon so it must have made an impression. I like the name.

Mommy on

The name isn’t horrendous but it’s not great either. Better than Tennesssee.

Carrie M on

I love Drew – she has that “girl next door” quality about her. I wish her lots of happiness with baby Olive. She must be a Q.T. Pie!

Sarah on

Wow some people are never happy regardless of what a celeb names the baby. JJ – Olive is a unique yet normal name. If the first thing you think of when you hear “olive’ is Martini then maybe you have a drinking problem. same with Sandra – you’re showing your age with the Popeye reference.

Sandra on

Congratulations on the birth of your new baby daughter! I somehow knew she was having a girl. Drew has certainly come a long way from her crazy younger years for sure! I am so happy she found the right person for her and is now a Mom. All the best for you and your husband.

Jess on

I was sitting on the couch with my little girl this weekend watching ET and I wondered when she would have her baby. So glad she had a little girl and I love the name.

Sooo happy for them! I knew she was gonna have a girl! Love the name Olive.

robyn on

Congrats on your baby. She has an awesome birthday…..I have the same. Enjoy every moment as they grow up so fast.

Tee Tee on

How exciting! I love the name Olive, even though it’s a bit more on the unusual side. Congratulations to Drew and Will!

M R on

Drew might have had the name Olive in mind because she was the voice for “Olive, the Other Reindeeer” many years ago.

jane tyler on

In breaking news, they have decided to name their future children Pimento, Pickle and Pepper…

On a serious note, Olive Hoover from Little Miss Sunshine is one of the all time great characters…

Wow, how many generations now? Over 150 years of Barrymores in the entertainment business. Impressive. Congrats Drew and Hubby.

Anonymous on

Congrats. I like Drew. And the name Olive is great – a normal one at last!

kris on

i adore Olive as a name! for whatever reason, that name seems perfect for any drew barrymore child! congrats to her!

Amy on

OLIVE??? As is “Olive the Other Reindeer”??!! Good grief.

Kat on

Congrats to her! After having such a turbulent childhood, I hope she really enjoys her daughter’s!

m on

I bet she’s a beautiful baby with those genes. The dad is hot and drew is pretty, can’t wait to see the photos.

Barbra on

Congratulations to Drew and Will. Olive is a very beautiful and normal name, especially in Hollywood standards. Let’s not forget people: Marie Osmonds real first name is Olive. Isla Fisher has a daughter named Olive and there are many other beautiful Olives in this world.

WJF on

I love traditional names, so cute, congrats!

aeg66 on

I love the name considering that she voiced Olive in the holiday cartoon of the book “Olive, the Other Reindeer.”

Amy on

I love the name Olive for a little girl. It’s unique and traditional at the same time and I wasn’t at all surprised to read that’s what they chose. Wasn’t it the name of the little girl in Little Miss Sunshine too? Congratulations – I bet she’s going to be a wonderful mother.

Kelly on

not a huge fan of the name, but it’s not outlandish either. maybe there is some special meaning to them. if they love it thats all that matters! Congrats to the new parents!! I’ve always thought Drew would make an amazing mother!

Marie on

I adore Drew. Think she’s a good actress. Loved her in Scream. She seems like a nice person and so does her husband, even though I don’t like the name, I say congrats!

Skipp on

I’m not keen on the name Olive. Perhaps it will grow on me one day.. Congrats Drew! I think you’ll be an awesome mom!

Meep on

My goodness… people complaining about an “odd” name that’s actually been around for… well, forever. It’s a very common name actually. If she wasn’t married people would be bashing her for that… now people are bashing her because she’s been married before. Some of you are just never happy, huh?

Regardless, congrats to Drew and her husband on the birth of their daughter. Truly a happy time for them. Love the name!! Enjoy your baby!!!!

Melisa on

Drew had such a screwed up childhood. I honestly think those experiences are going to make her TWICE the mom that her own mother was to her. Congratulations to her and her family.

LaLa on

Awful not normal name! It is Olivia that is normal, not a food.

Lindi on

Congratulations and long and happy lives to you all!

Brooklyn on

Name isn’t my style, but congrats to them both!

Denise on

Congratulations! Olive is a very pretty, normal name.

Kat on

As in Olive – the other reindeer?

jen3011 on

I like Olive and I like Drew. Congrats!!

Anonymous on

Congrats to them! I’ve always liked Drew Barrymore. We’re around the same age and I remember when she made the decision–as a CHILD, to clean herself up and never looked back. Nice to see her happy.

Jenny! on

YAY MORE BABIES! Soooo cute but i wanna see a pic:(

skip on

Why do these stars name their kids and after fruits and vegtables?

Kim on

Congratulations! Olive is a very old name, which I bet their little girl will hate when she’s small, but learn to love as she matures.

gracie on

I think Olive is a sweet name…a bit old fashioned too.

I love that some celebrities just choose to go through their pregnancys without feeling the need to make a big announcement to anyone other than family and friends and then announce the birth without a lot of fanfare. So much classier than constantly tewwting and talking about every little event.

Honey boo boo on

Never equate fame with intelligence. Olive, Tennessee James, Apple…go figure.

Cdyana on

Drew is a true inspiration. Stardom at an early age…hit a couple of ruff patches…straightened up and set herself back on the right path.
Congrats 2 U Drew & UR hubby!!

Gina on

What turn around she made (third marriages, countless affairs). Glad she saw the light and grew up! Olive is pretty name.

Sylvia on

Congratulations Drew and Will on the birth of your daughter. What a lovely name too!

Meg on

Olive is a very normal name. Very traditional. It’s obvious some of you are too yonng, ignorant and stupid to know that; why don’t you go educate yourselves?

Jenny Kellstest on

Aw, the greatest name! My grandmother’s name was Olive, and she was the best grandmother ever. She had pristine manners and when I was in grad school and came to stay with her on weekends she always cooked me a yellow cake with fudge frosting, plus she loved my dogs, two extraordinary Tibetan Terriers….She saved their tennis balls in a corner of her living room and told everyone not to touch their toys. Best Wishes, Jenny

auroramia on

Aww…I knew it was going to be a girl…and I am so not even surprised by the name Olive. Lovely choice. Wasnt she the voice of Olive the other Reindeer?? Cute!

Laila on

good for her and Olive is not common but not off the wall; nice choice!

Melissa on

Great name. Of course, I’m biased, that is my 5 year old daughter’s name. Olive happens to be a very old fashioned name. It was a popular name a century ago. I like that it’s making a comeback.

kim on

mazie beth on

a nice solid name and I love it…and I’m sure Drew’s always loved it too. anyone remember her animated special ‘Olive, the Other Reindeer? congrats to Drew and Will.

Katja on

To all the people who think Olive is a weird celebrity name, check out the popularity charts! Olive was a popular name in the U.S. from the late 1800s through the 1920s. (It existed before the late 1800s but we don’t have popularity charts from before then.) For example, Olive was just as popular as Daisy and Flora in the 1890s.

soonergirl on

Shenae, you call Olive a NORMAL name?? Yikes.

Isabel on

Congratulations! Much more of a normal name than I was expecting.

Cooper on

Olive is a little quirky but not TOO out there. She’s probably very cute look at her parents.

susan on

adore the name, very perfect for her unique style. Congrats to Drew and her husband. Welcome Olive!!

Anonymous on

Love her name, Children with normal names dont get teased as much as people that name their babies baby names and when they are adults its stupid. Or Micheal is being spelled mykel, come on, unique is the child not in the name. Congrats, Hope she looks like mommy did when she was a little girl.

debra on

Thank God her last name isnt “garden”

Olivia on

Love the name! Wonder if Cameron Diaz is the Godmother.

Karlya on

Great ..how long with this marriage work in Fairy Land?

panhermes on

May she coo and gurgle, smile and laugh, may she bring ever increasing joy to the proud parent and be forever and always cherished. May she grow, (they have a habit of so doing) and remain always healthy and be always loving and loved by all fortunate enough to know her. So glad for Drew and Will, the happy new mother and father and the grandparents…;-)S~

RKF on

Congrats to them! I think Drew will be an unbelievable Mom, and happen to think the name is adorable!

Lassie on

Olive is nice – I approve! lol. Wish them luck, the husband and his family seem to be steadying kind of folks.

Jennifer on

CONGRATS!! The name Olive is not very unusual for this new generation. Old fashioned names are the big trend. My daughter is “Charlotte” and my mom couldn’t believe I was giving her a grandma name. Now there are Charlotte’s everywhere! She has a Blanch and an Olive in her class. She’s friends with a Hazel and a Gretta. The list of grandma names for preschoolers goes on and on….

kjc on

I know two young girls with the name Olive, one a first name and one a middle. I think it’s sweet.

Love Drew, congrats to her!

macey on

a girl…oh well…better luck next time..

gac on

So happy for her. She’ll make a great mom.

sharonrob2 on

I love that she named her Olive, as in the Christmas cartoon she produced and starred in “Olive the Other Reindeer.” An adorable choice.

Anonymous on

Congratulations Drew! she will share my sisters birthday. 🙂

TJ on

Olive? Eww….Congrats on the healthy baby, but what girl wants that name when she’s older???

namereader on

Yay Drew! Congrats!

Here’s a quick name reading for your new baby:

Olive: will love the seasons and be influenced by changes in the weather, she will love to love and be in love, she will believe there is more to her life and she will look to find it. She will be lovely and feminine, she will engage in refined thinking and be easy to get along with.

A good name for a lovely new baby!

Cad Queen on

Congrats Drew and your husband, on your new bundle of joy, I like the name Olive, it is now wierd like some of the other celebrity names. Wishing you much health and happiness.

Plainer on

It seems Drew Barrymore has been with us for over a half of a century so I was surprised that she was young enough to give birth to a baby. In 1958 I visited MGM studios as a guest of a producer and watched her father John Drew Barrymore being filmed with Julie London in “Night of the Quarter Moon” which seems like eons ago. I tend to forget that Drew wasn’t born then yet and started acting at the tender age of 3 in 1978. She has been with us a heck of a long time nonetheless.

Chloe on

CONGRATS DREW AND WILL!! I bet she’s going to be an absolutely fantastic mother. So happy for both of them and the name (and I have no doubt the baby) is just adorable.

Michelle on

Way to go, Gertie! Been a fan of yours since “E.T.” – all the love your heart can hold. What a lovely name for a baby girl…thank God you didn’t go with “Dragon Fruit” or “LOL” – ha!

gigielizabeth on

Congrats Drew…I’m actually a little envious that I didn’t wait until I “grew up” to do motherhood…We’re the same age and I have an empty nest and could-be-better relationships with my kids…what a different mom I’d be if I were doing it now..I’m so happy for you..I am really wishing you and your family nothing but the best..you deserve it!!!

JE on

Congrats!!! I am so happy for her! Love the name.

trina on

congrats!!! to you both..im thrilled for the two of you, makes my heart smile..all the best ..

Sam on

Poor kid – Drew is a wack job. Divorce is 5 years away – MAX! Then Drew will date 100 other men with her little brat witnessing it all. Tragic, but typical.

Anonymous on

I thought for sure her baby would have a flower name like Daisy or Violet….since Drew has such a passion for flowers! Olive is cute!!!!

Anonymous on

Congratulations, Mom and Dad to your little girl, Olive! Enjoy this time together! Hugs, cuddles and kisses for her! Love you!

Long and happy lives to the new family!

Linda on

Not crazy about the name Olive but it is better then Apple! LOL…I do like the story behind Olive’s name though…it is the name of a character that Drew played the voice of in “Olive the other raindeer” and if you think of it that way, the name is kinda cute!

I am so happy for Drew and her hubby ..they look so in love …congrat’s on Baby Olive…may you all be happy and healthy forever!

Lynocat71 on

I am so thrilled for Drew Barrymore and her husband. I wish them all the best and may God Bless them with a happy and healthy baby and wonderful life together as a new family. I have always loved Drew Barrymore as a actress-she seems like she would also be a down to earth person. I also like that she did not flaunt her pregnancy like most of the celebrities, Where they annouce they are pregannt which is fine but, let it go at that and then also at the end of the pregancy with the birth announcement. Not like Jessica Simpson or Kourtney Kardashian -, announces pregnancy, talks about everything that is wrong, every 5 minutes a picture is taken of them. Then they pose for the magazine covers. I think this also goes to show even more what a regular type of person she seems like. She knew that people would realize she was pregnany but, it is her personal life. God Bless thisbeautiful family~!!!!

Lindi on

For all the name police; Olive is Marie Osmond’s first name. She was named after her late mother.

Maybe this baby was named for someone special to Drew & her husband.

Edie on

Congrats to you and your baby ..good health to all but i am not crazy about the name olive

Misplaced Angel on

Olive?! I seriously feel for this child when she grows up and earns the nickname name Olive Oil. How embarrassing.

Colleen on

Beautiful name. I bet the baby is beautiful too.

NA on

Olive the Other Reindeer. Love it!

Anonymous on

I had an Aunt Olive, we called her aunt Ollie. she had a little corner store in West Glover VT. called Ollies Corner Store. My name is Vonamae. Want to talk about odd. ha ha Olive is fine.

JJ on

Jeepers! Olive is NOT some weird celebrity name (a-la Apple). It’s a lovely old-fashioned name…my grandma was an ‘Olive’ and she was born in 1909. Anyway, good name choice! Love it! Congrats!

jojo on

oh, some of you people are so stupid. naming the next child martini or pickle, really?! don’t tell me you don’t know that olive isn’t a real life, used name. it’s sort of out of the norm now, but it’s been used for many, many decades. if she had named the child greg, would you ask for marsha or jan? dumb, dumb, dumb..

Kathy on

Congrats to you and your husband Drew!!! May God Bless Olive!! You are my favorite actress!

Carol on

Congrats. Drew, you are the BEST.

emmitpenny on

I feel like her mother. I remember when she danced on David Lettermans desk on the tonight show. I am soooo happy for her. She waited a long time to settle down. That is so great. Good luck to her and her new family.

Tara on

so stupid to not announce you’re having a baby when you’re obviously pregnant. but i’m sure when her next project is out, she’ll be all over the airwaves. moron.

Sandra on

Drew & Will Congratulations on your beautiful daughter!!. Enjoy the ride with your new baby. Because every day goes by faster & faster, they don’t stay babies long enough

Jimmy on

Hopefully the kid won’t be as screwed up as Drew was as a kid and teenager.

Ava on

Congrats! LOVE the name too. Very classic and simple

Anonymous on

Em- I mostly agree with that, except I think it’s more accurate to say that the information on Wikipedia isn’t reliable UNLESS it’s also been reported by other, more reputable sources (one example that is commonly cited as a source in celebrity wikipedia articles: A celebrity’s own autobiography!).

Anyway, as far as the twins thing goes, I’m guessing that was posted by someone who read the recent interview mentioned in this article (where she talks about how she “can’t wait to have my children”) and automatically assumed that her referring to children in the plural meant she was having twins. Obviously she was referring to this baby and future children, though!

Anyway, congrats to Drew and her husband, and I personally love the name! It’s a perfectly normal girl’s name that has, as other posters have said, been around for centuries. And to everyone saying it sounds like an 82-year-old women’s name: 82-year-old women were once babies, too! 😉

Jazzzy on

CONGRATULATIONS Drew and Will on your blessed arrival of “Olive”. May you all have a happy & healthy life 🙂

NewEnglandGirl on

HA!! I love it! I had NO IDEA that she was even pregnant. NICE JOB keeping your privacy a sacred thing, Drew and a BIG CONGRATS!!!

Trisha on

Congrats to a wonderful young lady, fabulous actress, and survivor! Right on Drew! The best of everything to you and the family!

Maria on

Congrats and welcome to the world little miss…

But on an aside – I despair for people who think Olive is a dumb name…or that the child will be “doomed” because of it.

Olive is a timeless name and has been around longer than some of the crappy names that I see children being monikered with lately. Fair play to them for being NORMAL!

Catca on

My first thought with Drew having a little girl is picturing Drew as little Gertie in E.T. If Olive looks anything like her mom did when she was little, she’s going to be one cute little girl.

Sandy on

congrats! love the name 🙂

she did the voice in “Olive, the other Reindeer” from the children’s book story.

texaschickeee on

I am happy for her. She has grown up before the public, sown her wildness and come full circle. I see great things for Olive and Drew. God Speed Drew.

queeniez71 on

Its funny she named the baby Olive as that was the animated characters name she voiced in Olive the Reindeer lol. I also I would like to say Congrats and good luck and I hope it works out this time she doesnt seem to stay married to long and hopefully this time she will

Kate on

The name Olive reminds me of Emma Stone’s character in “Easy A.” I think it’s a cute, quirky name- I would expect nothing less from Ms. Barrymore.

Sharon on

Congrats to them on their beautiful baby girl! The name is kind of cute, but not something i would name my child. I love Drew…we are the same age. I remember seeing ET and telling my mom that the little girl looks my age…haha sooo long ago!

B.J. (the girl) on

Reminds me of “Olive, the Other Reindeer,” a cartoon dog that Drew voiced a few years back…. Hahaha.

Stella Bella on

I’m floored by the people who think Olive is a weird celebrity name. It’s been climbing the charts for the last five years and finished last year ranked #416 according to the Social Security Administration. For comparison: Olivia is currently #4 and Apple is not ranked anywhere in the Top 1000.

Sophia on

Oh how lovely! I adore the name Olive, not just because it’s my sweet little sister’s name, but it really is just such a gem! Congratulations to Will and Drew, and welcome baby Olive!

Anonymous on

Congrats to them! Nice to see them using a classic name. 🙂

kim on

congratulations drew and husband.

bee3105 on

Congratulations!!! Lovely name and a lovely family.

Mabby on

I like the name Olive. Trends in naming children interest me very much. Olive was popular years ago (I think around the turn of the 20th century), when it was thought that naming little girls for beautiful trees, flowers, and other plants was a lovely thing to do. Thus, they were named Olive, Myrtle, Laurel, Fern, Ivy, Rose, Lily, Iris, etc. I think it’s nice!

Carol on

Drew and will congrats on your little baby girl Olive. I wish the best for all of you.

Kelly on

@Macey, sexist much? They did have better luck THIS time with a beautiful little girl! Girls are the best.
