Update: David Pelletier and Jamie Salé welcome a son; introducing Jesse Joe
Update: People highlights added, as well as a blog from Jamie.
We are now on day 11 with our baby boy Jesse and it’s the most amazing gift ever, better than any Gold medal that’s for sure! He’s really a great baby! He’s healthy and seems to be very happy/content and is growing everyday, it’s crazy how they change daily. We had our first doctors appointment and he has gained weight and even grown a 1/4 of an inch. He now weighs 7.7lbs, a BIG boy! lol
He was big enough for me that’s for sure. I was in labor for a quick 3 hrs (lucky me) and then he was born @ 8:30pm on Sunday, Sept. 30th. We got to go home the next day @ 11am so we were so happy about that, we wanted to be back at home in our comfort zone to enjoy him and rest.
Man, it’s the best!We are getting sleep, so far, and adjusting well to parenthood. It’s going to be different that’s for sure but we love and adore him so much that he’s now our priority. We are planning to have him with us whenever we are away skating including any Stars shows so we’ll always be together, which is awesome for us. We are fortunate to have two fabulous mothers who can come and help us on the road.
It’s time to go look after my boys now but David and I would like to thank all of you who wrote us your well wishes and congratulations, it is greatly appreciated. We’ll keep you posted with everything.

Originally posted October 3rd: Olympic champions David Pelletier, 32, and Jamie Salé, 30, welcomed their first child, a boy, on Sunday at the Sturgeon Community Hospital and Health Centre in St. Albert, Alberta. Jesse Joe, named because Jesse is easy to pronounce in both French and English, and Joe in honor of David’s deceased grandfather, weighed in at 7 lbs and measured 19 inches. Jamie had a natural birth without medication. Says Jamie,
David kept asking, ‘Is there anything I can do?’ He felt so helpless, but he was there for me, squeezing my hand the whole time.
David was equally impressed with his wife, who powered through the pain.
I knew Jamie was a little piece of iron, but she blew me away during the delivery. If I had to give her a technical mark, it would be perfect.
A career on ice — whether it be hockey or figure skating — seems to be in the cards for Jesse, depending on which parent you talk to. Jamie says,
David’s already told the Edmonton Oilers that Jesse’s draft year is 2024 or 2025. [laughs] Jesse sleeps with his arms over his head, just like David. He’s getting ready to lift someone, just like his father!
The couple had announced the pregnancy in April.
